At the base of Mt fuji sits a huge treetop climbing course set in among the trees. The most challenging course lasts for about two and a half hours. Participants must wear a harness at all times while climbing. The harness is connected to top running guide wires which allow adventurous climbing and lots of safe fun.
The overall course is made up of rope ladders, ziplines, swings, nets and wooden platforms. Great views of Mt Fuji abound! Its important to note some restrictions for the course: The minimum height requirement is 140cm and the maximum weight restriction is 130kg.
The original concept was first born in France. Including Mt Fuji there are forty such places throughout Japan. The setting is harmonious and its fun to get back to nature as you climb up trees, cross bridges way up high and then slide down ziplines over an extended distance to the ground below!
It is recommended that you make a reservation if you can, however you will need a Japanese person to do this as the reservation system on their website is only in Japanese. There is no charge for cancellations. The address is: www.foret-aventure.jp 6662-1, Funatsu Fujikawaguchiko-cho, Minami-Tsurugun,YAMANASHI 401-0301,
Some may ask is it dangerous? There is a risk of falling from height, however the use of the safety harness and following the rules can reduce the risk. Any kids under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult. One adult can take up to three kids with them.
The staff do not stay with you. You will go around the course own your own and at your own pace. There are resting platforms suitably placed throughout the course. You will be given a safety briefing and once you understand then you will be clear to start the course. The staff will conduct patrols of the area. In the situation where there are many kids and not enough adults, you can organize for an instructor to attend the course as well. Just ask for the “Guide Package” (Booking is essential).
You can bring your own camera on the climb for great treetop pics! You will need to prepare for the weather and dirty clothes too! You need strong footwear with soles and good grips. Thongs, sandals or slip off shoes are not allowed. If you have boots that support the ankle this is best. You will need to tie your hair back. Body piercing will need to be removed or taped over. Also, a bare tummy is no good as the harness will chafe it.
If the weather gets too bad the course may close, however, generally the course will always remain open. Lightning, ice or storms are the exception and the course will close at these times.
The start time for your safety briefing is the time you booked, you will need at least twenty minuets beforehand to get prepared and sign in. If you are late, you will be rebooked which may mean that you have to wait. Please call ahead if you are going to be late.
As a general rule safety briefings can accommodate fifteen people or more.
